One full week of trial - it's been hectic, but also enlightening in a way, I suppose. Imagine being in a constant state of engaged thought, action, crisis even - constant new projects, everything is a priority, and everything must be done now. Still, living out of a hotel is interesting and quite convenient, in a way - and since I eat out almost all the time anyway, meals have not been too much of a change. It's better quality food, even if it isn't alwqays healthy. The hours are grueling (especially the early mornings, which I find the most difficult) but I do feel as though I'm getting good experience, and the work I've done all these months has finally become at least somewhat useful.
I've just about managed to stay on top of my other commitments as well, despite having a grader analysis due and problems with my landlord, although I am behind again in my pension and retirement benefits class. I miss not being able to exercise as much (hotel gym closes as 9:00 pm, and I'm usually not done with work for another few hours after that) but otherwise, I must admit I don't see why people complain so much about traveling for work - except for laundry and the book I meant to bring, I've not really missed not being at mine. Does this mean I've failed to make it a home? Maybe so, but it's certainly more convenient this way.
One unfortunate thing, I suppose - sadly, it looks as though I won't have a chance to see my guest again before he leaves, as he'll not be back in the City before late Sunday night, and I have to be back in San Jose early on Monday, so I'll be spending Sunday night there. I'm sure I'll see him again before long though - good friends usually find a way to stay in touch. Then Tuesday I start my liquid diet for the colonoscopy, and I get to take Thursday off for the actual procedure. I'll probably be back down here fore the weekend, though I might get to stay in San Francisco on Friday. Long hours, stressful life.
But as the man says, "There's a law. . .
